The new normal takes the toll in the Schools Division of Parañaque in the conduct of the recruitment process and deployment of new teachers for SY 2020-2021.

Schools Division Superintendent Evangeline P. Ladines circulated a division memo advising the Personnel Selection Board (PSB) through Administrative Officer IV/Human Resource Management Officer Shery M. Roque to undertake the alternative recruitment so as not to derail the deployment of new teachers. Strictly no face to face, the processes were held virtually, which started from May 6 up to July 10.

The process started with the schoolheads submitting via email the list of the teacher-applicants with contact numbers to Ms. Roque who segregated the lists for Elementary-General, Elementary-Kinder, Elementary-SPED, Junior High School (per learning area), and Senior High School (per track).

Ms. Roque then forwarded the lists to the concerned Education Program Supervisors (EPSs) for further evaluation and assignment of the topics for the individual teaching demonstrations.

The EPS prepared the list of teacher-applicants with the assigned topics (except for the applicants of the Elementary-General who chose their own topics for demonstration) and forwarded to the PSB secretariat for posting and wide dissemination in the division’s Facebook website.

The schoolheads were provided the copies of the lists, so that the School Selection Committee would be able to inform their applicants.

The applicants sent a 30-minute video presentation of their teaching demonstration to the email address of the EPS concerned adapting the blended learning strategy considered as the relevant modality. They incorporated the use of laptop, LCD, manila paper, pictures, other relevant materials or multi-media equipment in their presentations.

Following the guidelines stipulated in the DepEd Orders for recruitment of new teachers, the    EPSs evaluated and rated the applicants based on their submitted videos using the criteria for teaching demonstration.

The ratings were then forwarded to the PSB secretariat who contacted the applicants for the panel interviews via Zoom. The PSB secretariat were composed of Dr. Marilyn B. Timtiman, SGOD chief; Ms. Roque; Ms. Salve M. Tesorero, Administrative Officer IV; Engr. Leonora J. Nofuente, PSDS; and  Mr. Lenin A. Javier, MT II (PNHS faculty president /ACT president  -Parañaque Chapter).

To this date, the applicants will have to wait for further announcement as regards the schedule of the proficiency test which the division has yet to design in compliance with the safety measures and standards of IATF. (By Reena G. Orquina)
