To prepare the teachers and learners in the opening of classes on August 24, 2020, the Schools Division of Parañaque City under the leadership of the Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Evangeline P. Ladines, has undertaken a series of webinar on module writing and quality assurance across learning areas to ensure that teachers are given ample opportunities to develop competence in writing learning modules that are appropriate and effective.
In the Simultaneous School In-Service Training on June 8-11, 2020 Dr. Ladines, confirmed that the default mode of the division in the delivery of instruction is Modular Distance Learning (MDL) or distance education through modular instruction in two variations: the digitized modules and the printed modules. The confirmation was based on the consolidated results of the Learner Enrollment and Survey Forms (LESF), which showed that majority of the parents preferred modular instruction for their children.
Modular instruction involves individualized learning which allows learners to use modules, learning sheets, activity sheets, and other learning materials. As explained during the virtual trainings, these learning modules will be provided to students in both digitized and printed forms. All schools in the division were directed to specify the procedure that they have to implement in order for the learners to access the material, with strict observance of the health and safety protocols set by the COVID-19 Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF).
While students are learning at home, teachers take the responsibility of monitoring their progress. In addition, parents’ support and involvement in the learning of their children are highly encouraged in distance education.
As teachers have been trained in the preparation of modules and are now working on the materials, Dr. Ladines emphasized the importance of “one’s willingness to contribute” and having the right attitude as essential factors in achieving success in the new normal in education.
