DepEd P’que braces Brigada Pagbasa Year 2
It takes a village to educate a child. Every school should be a community school, and teachers should not be solely responsible for educating the whole child.
Schools Division of Paraǹaque goes a long way to address the problem of literacy following the Year 1 Learning Recovery and Continuity Plan (LCRP) implementation resulting in 75 % or 18 585 out of 24 780 learners from Key Stage 1 improved from Full Refresher Level to Grade Level Ready; 78% or 27 912 out of 35 785 learners are Independent readers for Key Stage 3.
Thus, the second cycle of Brigada Pagbasa culled from its umbrella program Bawat Batang Paraǹaqueno Bumabasa, launched on January 6, 2023, is a complete meal of psychosocial and team-building activities, story-telling, and reading sessions for learners held on 16 Saturdays or weekdays equivalent if it may, and on face-to-face involved not only by the reading teachers concerned but also of the internal or external stakeholders, the LGUs, NGOs, and NGAs education partners.`
The 45 schools of the Division never miss a single Saturday or such a purposive meeting in a day to serve the learners who eagerly report to schools and meet the teacher volunteers who provide the former with the needed skills in reading. According to Dr. Erzenia P. De Guzman, schoolhead, the engagements are valuable to address literacy, which affected the students at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic when schools functioned in Modular or Distance Learning delivery mode.
The schools took by heart the Brigada Pagbasa to enhance the reading skills of the learners, a reiteration of the statement of Assistant Schools Division Superintendent Violeta M. Gonzales stressing reading as a tool that the learner can use to gain all of the competencies required to understand. She stated further that the learner who struggles to read likely struggles academically.
Schools Division Superintendent Evangeline P. Ladines encouraged the schools to sustain their enthusiasm in implementing the Brigada Pagbasa. She thanked the efforts exerted by the volunteers in coordination with the Division focal persons, Education Program Supervisors Dr. Edwin S. Doria for Filipino and Dr. Rodrigo Morales for English and Division focal person of Brigada Eskwela, Senior Education Program Specialist for Social Mobilization Mr. Maximino Santos Jr. (by Reena G.
