Division holds training for school canteen teachers, managers
Schools Division of Paraǹaque organized the Division Capability Training of Public Schools Canteen Teachers and Managers at the Sequoia Hotel on January 20-21, 2023.
The training sprang from the request of some schools, which have newly designated school canteen teachers and managers. “With the promotion of the previous canteen manager to Master Teacher, I needed to assign a new teacher in charge of the canteen as competent as the former,” remarked Dr. Rosendo Abulog, schoolhead of Tambo National High School.
Dr. Abulog was just among the schoolheads of the Division expressing his thoughts over designated canteen managers undergoing the training. On the other hand, the canteen teacher and manager of San Antonio National High School, Shelly Cadenas, said (that) the two-day training refreshed her skills and role as a canteen manager. “I am happy and thankful to the Division for designing a training like this, for it renewed my commitment to learners,” she commented.
The training revisited the various policy guidelines stipulated under D.O. 8, s. 2007 (Revised Implementing Guidelines on the Operation and Management of School Canteens in Public Elementary and Secondary Schools) and D.O. 13, s. 2017 (Policy and Guidelines on Healthy Food and Beverage Choices in Schools and DepEd Offices).
During the training, the participants shared their experiences as canteen teachers and managers, as well as their responsibilities and appreciation of the importance of canteen operation and management in public elementary and secondary schools.
“Know that more than the profit, the purpose of the school canteen is to provide the right nutrition for our schoolchildren,” said Schools Division Superintendent Evangeline P. Ladines in her message and interaction with the teachers.
Dr. Ladines commended EPP/TLE Education Program Supervisor Dr. Antonio C. Layacan for overseeing the needs of the canteen teachers and managers so that they perform their special assignments free from strife and full of confidence. She likewise extended her appreciation to the SDO personnel and supervisors for their assistance as speakers and facilitators. Assistant Schools Division Superintendent Violeta M. Gonzales graced the first day with SGOD Chief Thelma F. Montiel and CID Chief Bernardo M. Mascariǹa.
The training concluded with Dr. Ladines administering the oathtaking of the elected officers of the Division Canteen Teachers and Managers Association. (by Reena G. Orquina)
